All of these were hardships that the pioneers encountered on the trails to the West. In the early years of the country, travelling or settling in the West could be extremely risky. There were many difficulties that the settlers encountered. Harsh weather made long journeys difficult. Disease was common and medical help was hard to find. Attacks by Spanish soldiers, as well as Native people, were common. Finally, the rugged landscape made travelling and settling very difficult to achieve.

Who would you save? I would try to figure out who is more at risk, and I would consider the condition of both my mother and my grandfather. In the end I would either try to save both and risk the death of all three of us, or save my mother who is young and healthy.
