The correct answer is Many conservatives believed in balanced budgets, low taxes, and low government spending.

The New Deal was President Franklin D. Roosevelt's plan to get America out of the Great Depression during the 1930's. This economic plan was focused on relief, recovery, and reform. With this in mind, his plan called for an enormous expansion of the federal government by increased federal spending. This included the creation of agencies like the Conservation Civilian Corps and the Works Progress Administration, which were both aimed at employing American citizens. This went against the belief of many conservatives who believed that this huge increase in spending and increased tax rate for wealthy citizens would hurt the American economy.
