People are easily swayed, because of this in a fake news and broken politics kind of society we have, a hoax can sway simple minded people easily, especially if they don't look into the information being put before them. Also, because of social networking it is easier to get these hoaxes out there and even provide entire websites dedicates to such a hoax.
