Answer:

Widespread economic growth. The modern American middle class began to emerge in the 20's. With the increase of buying on credit, many American families were able to afford new machines, such as washing machines, cars, et cetera. This increase in economic activity gave the illusion that the economy was "roaring", however the large amount of borrowing helped cause the economic destruction that was seen at the end of the decade with the Wall Street Crash in October of 1929.
