Read the following excerpt from the article "Vision, Voice and the Power of Creation: An Author Speaks Out," by T. A. Barron and

answer the question that follows:
Right now, I am spending a lot of time listening to the voice of a particularly compelling character: the young Merlin. In the end, I finally heard the voice of Merlin thanks to a surprising source: the haunting, mysterious hooting of a great horned owl outside the window of my Colorado home. As I listened to that owl's resonant [echoing] call in the pre-dawn hours one morning, something about it gave me a whole new cadence [rhythm], a whole new sound. And then, a whole new voice.

Which adjective supports the author's explicit message about his inspiration for Merlin's voice? (10 points)

1)Young

2)Mysterious

3)New

4)Whole

I believe the correct answer is 2) mysterious.
He states in the excerpt that the voice of Merlin came to him '<span>thanks to a surprising source: the haunting, mysterious hooting of a great horned owl...' So the inspiration for Merlin's voice was mysterious, strange, secretive, and he didn't understand it yet at the moment when he heard it. But once he started writing, inspired by the owl's hooting, he suddenly found Merlin's voice.</span>

I believe your answer would be 3).New.
The message throughout seems to be new, he even talks about feeling new.

"Editha" by William Dean Howells is a story about characters who ritualistically follow the popular beliefs and norms of society
oksian1 [2.3K]

Answer:

It was very low inside the house, and so dim, with the closed blinds, that they could scarcely see one another;

Her father standing decorously apart with his hat on his forearm, as at funerals; a woman rested in a deep arm-chair, and the woman who had let the strangers in stood behind the chair.

<em>Editha</em>, by William Dean Howells, is an antiwar story published in 1905. Its characters are people who greatly value custom and ritual, even when it is objectively inconvenient or awkward for them to do so.

The two chosen lines exemplify that character trait. In the first sentence, the house has the blinds closed, as was common for houses where the family had recently experienced a loss or a tragedy. This rule is followed, even though it meant that the characters were barely able to see each other.

The second sentence has a similar example, as Edith's father stands at a distance and with his hat in his hands. We are told this is the way it is done at funerals, which is consistent with the previous sentence and with the character's personality traits.

Sergio [31]

Answer by Mimiwhatsup:A.  adventurous

Why: I wouldn't say he is reckless by jumping out of a airplane but more adventurous because a lot of people do that.  "Skydiving was just another way to achieve the adrenaline rush he craved. "
