The Boston Evening Transcript was a daily afternoon newspaper in Boston Massachusetts, it was published from July 24th, 1830 to April 30, 1941, by Henry W. Dutton.

The letter from the Boston Evening Transcript shows that on the contrary people stated, there was indeed racism in the North. The letter shows it by suggesting that blacks were not ready to rule themselves or others by saying that they did not learn the skills of citizenship and self-rule required for democracy. Some northern saw blacks as an inferior group and this view justified denying equal rights and protection under the law.

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

The letter "the Boston Evening Transcript" showed that racism existed in the north because it stated that black people were not capable of being civilized and had no way to live up in the social environment.

In was the end of 1873, when the Boston Evening Transcript referred to black people as unfitted to participate in politics. Some people in the north thought that black people needed so much instruction to forget their time as slaves and be instructed to fit in the US society. The letter expressed that black people were far behind the status in society they aimed for.
