To find equivalent fractions, just multiply or divide both the numerator and denominator by the same number. 3 : 4 = 6 : 8 because 6 ÷ 2 = 3 and 8 ÷ 2 = 4. 12 : 16 = 6 : 8 because 6 × 2 = 12 and 8 × 2 = 16. Any number used for multiplcation or division works as long as the number is used for both the numerator and denominator.
