The step where the error occurred is Step 4. After step 3, 34x should've been added to both sides of the equation. Instead of -17x, Step 4 should say 17x, because -17+34=17. Somehow, the whole number in Step 4 also changes from 40 to 14. Nothing changed it, it should still be 40. Step 4 should be: 17x=40.

To continue solving, divide both sides by 17.

x should be 40/17 or 2 6/17.

I hope this helps :)

U.S cities hire about 17,000 police officers per 10,000 residents for a 17/10,000 ratio a new police chief for a city of 35,000
mina [271]

Answer: 59,500

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

For 10,000 residents, 17,000 police officers are hired

The ratio of Police officers and citizens is constant

So, for 35,000 citizens suppose x officers are hired

\Rightarrow \dfrac{17,000}{10,000}=\dfrac{x}{35,000}\\\\\Rightarrow x=1.7\times 35,000\\\\\Rightarrow x=59,500

Thus, 59,500 officers are required.

Part A: Larry earned $11 walking his neighbors' dogs on Saturday. He earned some extra money on Sunday doing the same thing. Write an expression with a variable that shows the total amount of money Larry has earned Saturday and Sunday.

Part A.....let x be the amount he earned on Sunday.....so

Amount  earned on Saturday  +  amount earned Sunday   =

11  +  x        =

Represents the total amount he earned

Point P(-5, 2) is translated using the rule (x+3, y-1). What is the x-coordinate of P' ?
ss7ja [257]
Translate, in math, is just a fancy word for "change" or "move". We're changing (-5, 2) using x + 3 and y - 1. If the x value is -5, what is x + 3?

(-5) + 3 = -2

And for the y - 1?

(2) - 1 = 1.

Your answer is P'(-2, 1)
