The author tries to depict the point of view during the Cultural Revolution  in China. He described how during the Cultural Revolution people lived under a brutal government.

In ' Voices From China’s  Cultural Revolution' (NY times) , stories of the  families that were affected by the Cultural Revolution are discussed. For example, the article shares the story of a composer, Mr. Chen. Mr. Chen describes that when he was a student, he spoke about what he was seeing. As a result, all his class fellows became his enemies for speaking up.
