Mitochondria contains it's own DNA. It's structure is a bit different from that of the chromosomes found in the eukaryotic nucleus. From my understanding, it supports the endosymbiotic theory because it contains characteristics similar to single-celled prokaryotic cells despite it being classified as an eukaryotic cell.

Another function of the mitochondria that supports the endosymbiotic theory is that the mitochondria are responsible for their own reproduction. Eukaryotic cells are duplicated by its nucleus, however, despite it being classified as an eukaryotic cell, the mitochondria does all the work on it's own. Again, it supports the endosymbiotic theory because it contains characteristics similar to single-celled prokaryotic cells despite it being classified as an eukaryotic cell.

A group of students is trying to grow a kelp plant in a tank without any others animals. They use a temperature regulation syste
Nady [450]
Kelp is very sensitive to temperature change. Placing the plant near the window and exposing it to direct sunlight will result in continuous warming of the water in which the kelp plant is growing. Research has shown that kelp plant degrades very quickly when temperature increases due to tissue loss.

A population of western skinks, a type of lizard, lives in a grassland habitat along the base of a mountain range. The construct
Ann [662]

Answer:

The most appropriate answer would be D. The western skink population would be separated into two groups, and genetic diversity would decline in each group.

It can be explained with the help of a bottleneck effect due to which population size decreases suddenly due to events like a natural disaster, habitat destruction et cetera.

The construction of the multi-lane highway would have destroyed the natural habitat of western skinks and separate them into two populations.

The separation of a population along with the destruction of habitat would result in a severe decrease in the population size of western skinks.

Consequently, the genetic diversity would also decrease.
