The general definition of verse is <em>"a writing arranged with a metrical rhythm, typically having a rhyme"</em>. It is slightly different in literature, but essentially the same: a verse is a single line of a poetry, but is often used to refer to a single line of a song and sometimes it is used to refer to a stanza.
