New diseases depopulated many cultures , contact between the two areas circulated a wide variety of new crops , livestock which supported increases in population. explorers returned with maize, potatoes, and tomatoes . they i<span>ntroduced manioc and the peanut to tropical southeast asia and west africa .</span>

There were many factors which geared people towards exploration at that time and these include: the need to get access to new trade routes, getting Christianity religion across to other nations, etc. Spreading the idea of new enlightenment was not one of these factors.
