In 1854, the controversial Kansas-Nebraska Act, split two
existing political parties the Whig party and Jacksonian Democrats and led to
the creation of the Republican party. Kansas-Nebraska act overturned the Missouri
compromise and allowed settlers to decide whether slavery would be allowed in
their state. This led to the creation of the Republican party founded by anti-slavers
whose primary objective was fighting slavery.
A personal responsibility is option D - taking care of yourself and your family.
Obeying laws, paying taxes, and understanding the values in the U.S. Constitution are all civic responsibilities. They are examples of acts and perspectives of civilly responsible citizens.

Three reform issues Dorr took up were:
-A new Constitution for Rhode Island, which hadn't been changed since it was written in the 1600s
-Universal suffrage for white male voters, as opposed to only landowners
- a change in how representatives were elected, because at the time rural interests had a disproportionate say due to their high land area.
