In the early 1900's, 6 million African Americans emigrated form the rural south of the US to the northeast, mid-west and west and thus began an urban existence in many of the cities in these areas so became important politically due to their numbers and their strong support of the civil rights movement later on.

Explanation: America maintained a neutral status during world War 2. The only help rendered was allowing passage of fleeing jews into America. It was not until Japanese attack on pearl Harbour did America enter the war (this was close to the ending of the war) and then sent troops into Germany who eventually along with Russia liberate the concencration camps.
