Mean birthweight is studied because low birthweight is an indicator of infant mortality. A study of babies in Norway published i

n the International Journal of Epidemiology shows that birthweight of full-term babies (37 weeks or more of gestation) are very close to normally distributed with a mean of 3600 g and a standard deviation of 600 g. Suppose that Melanie is a researcher who wishes to estimate the mean birthweight of full-term babies in her hospital. What is the minimum number of babies should she sample if she wishes to be at least 90% confident that the mean birthweight of the sample is within 200 grams of the the mean birthweight of all babies? Assume that the distribution of birthweights at her hospital is normal with a standard deviation of 600 g.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let X represent the birthweight of infant.

X is N(3600, 600)

To get within 200 gms from the mean

we must have x lying in (3400, 3800)

Let sample size be n

For this sample, sample mean is N(3600, 600/sqrt n)

For 90% confidence about the mean weight fromstd normal distribution we find that

z = ±1.645

So margin of error = 1.645*std error =200

1.645*\frac{600}{\sqrt{n} } 3*1.645\\n >25

Atleast 25 numbers should beconsidered.

Which equation represents the approximate line of best fit for data, where x represents font size and y represents the number of
wlad13 [49]
The table containing the data needed for this problem is attached on this answer. This data is used to determine the best fit line that is extracted from this multitude of points given. Best fit line is described as a line in which the variation of each point to the line is the minimum. We plot the data using MS Excel and is shown in the figure attached as well. We determine the trendline of the graph by the function in MS Excel. The equation of the trendline is expressed as <span>y = -26.059x + 722.63 in which the coefficient of determination, r^2 = 0.8947. </span>

A jar contains six blue marbles and five red marbles. Suppose you choose a marble at random, and do not replace it. Then you ch
TEA [102]

The jar has 6+5=11 marbles.

We have to find the probability of the following event:

1.We pick a marble from a jar that has 11 marbles in total, 5 of them are red

2.We pick a marble from a jar that has now 10 marbles in total, 4 of them are red (because in the previous step we picked a red marble and did not put it back in the jar)

The probability of the first event is:

P_1=\frac{5}{11}

The probability of the second event is:

P_2=\frac{4}{10}=\frac{2}{5}

The probability of the both events to happen is:

P=P_1\cdot P_2=\frac{5}{11}\cdot \frac{2}{5}=\frac{2}{11}=0.1818
