Mean birthweight is studied because low birthweight is an indicator of infant mortality. A study of babies in Norway published i

n the International Journal of Epidemiology shows that birthweight of full-term babies (37 weeks or more of gestation) are very close to normally distributed with a mean of 3600 g and a standard deviation of 600 g. Suppose that Melanie is a researcher who wishes to estimate the mean birthweight of full-term babies in her hospital. What is the minimum number of babies should she sample if she wishes to be at least 90% confident that the mean birthweight of the sample is within 200 grams of the the mean birthweight of all babies? Assume that the distribution of birthweights at her hospital is normal with a standard deviation of 600 g.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let X represent the birthweight of infant.

X is N(3600, 600)

To get within 200 gms from the mean

we must have x lying in (3400, 3800)

Let sample size be n

For this sample, sample mean is N(3600, 600/sqrt n)

For 90% confidence about the mean weight fromstd normal distribution we find that

z = ±1.645

So margin of error = 1.645*std error =200

1.645*\frac{600}{\sqrt{n} } 3*1.645\\n >25

Atleast 25 numbers should beconsidered.

Which point would be a solution to the system of linear inequalities ?
brilliants [131]

Answer:

(12,-6)

Step-by-step explanation:

we have

y\leq \frac{4}{3}x+5 ----> inequality A

y\geq -\frac{5}{2}x+5 ---> inequality B

we know that

If a ordered pair is a solution of the system of inequalities, then the ordered pair must satisfy both inequalities (makes true both inequalities)

<u><em>Verify each point</em></u>

Substitute the value of x and the value of y  of each ordered pair in the inequality A and in the inequality B

case 1) (0,-1)

Inequality A

-1\leq \frac{4}{3}(0)+5

-1\leq5 ----> is true

Inequality B

-1\geq -\frac{5}{2}(0)+5

-1\geq 5 ----> is not true

therefore

The ordered pair is not a solution of the system

case 2) (0,3)

Inequality A

3\leq \frac{4}{3}(0)+5

3\leq5 ----> is true

Inequality B

3\geq -\frac{5}{2}(0)+5

3\geq 5 ----> is not true

therefore

The ordered pair is not a solution of the system

case 3) (-6,-6)

Inequality A

-6\leq \frac{4}{3}(-6)+5

-6\leq-3 ----> is true

Inequality B

-6\geq -\frac{5}{2}(-6)+5

-6\geq 20----> is not true

therefore

The ordered pair is not a solution of the system

case 4) (12,-6)

Inequality A

-6\leq \frac{4}{3}(12)+5

-6\leq21 ----> is true

Inequality B

-6\geq -\frac{5}{2}(12)+5

-6\geq -25 ----> is true

therefore

The ordered pair is a solution of the system (makes true both inequalities)

Solve the equation. Write a justification for each step. <br>5m-3=22
balu736 [363]

Answer:

m=5

Step-by-step explanation:

5m-3=22

  1. take 3 the other side by doing the opposite operation

5m= 22+3

5m= 25

  • then divide it by 5 on both sides to get the value of m.
  • 5m÷5=25÷5
  • 5and 5 cancels out and the answer becomes :

m=5

PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Katena32 [7]

Answer:6018

Step-by-step explanation:

Given Sequence

-282-266-250-234.....

It represent an A.P. with

first term a=-282

common difference d=16

So sum of 51 term

S_n=\frac{n}{2}[2a+(n-1)d]

S_{51}=\frac{51}{2}\times [2\times (-282)+(51-1)16]

S_{51}=\frac{51}{2}\times [-564+800]

S_{51}=\frac{51}{2}\times [236]

S_{51}=51\times 118

S_{51}=6018
