State Burgundian is a modern term, coined to designate the political union under the authority of the Duke of Burgundy, but which has historical foundations to derive from the same denominations of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. This conglomerate of territories lacked a singular title that expressed the idea of political unity, but of all highlights the Duchy of Burgundy, since the owner of the dukedom was the Grand Master and Sovereign Chief of the Order of the Golden Fleece, from here the fact that once lost from the proper ducal territory the title was maintained, given its prestige.
In its heyday in 1477 the territories of the Burgundian state included:
Duchy of Burgundy - County of Charolais - County of Mâcon
Duchy of Brabant - Lordship of Mechelen - Duchy of Limburg
Duchy of Luxembourg
County of Flanders
County of Artois
County of Burgundy - Manor of Salins
Henao County
County of Holland - Lordship of Friesland - County of Zeeland
