The first element that needs to be considered is that 200 years ago the industrial revolution was had just flourished, but food production methods were totally delegated to traditional methods. When Maltus stated this situation, it could have only been based taking into consideration the contextual moment back at the time that surely posed a future issue related to population increasing and food demand.
However, over the years harversting and food production processes have also been suffering transformations that could cope with population growth, of course this doesn't mean it has been the best solution since this transformation has also brought side effects on food productiona and human health themselves.
