Alika [10]

Click to read the passage from "The Tell-Tale Heart," by Edgar Allan Poe. Then

answer the question.

How does the author effectively build suspense in this passage?

A.The use of figurative language

B.The lack of punctuation

C.The repetition of the word "louder"

D.The first person point of view

The right answer is:

The aspect of this passage that most creates suspense in the reader?

The use of figurative language. Thus, option "A" is correct.

How, explain your answer briefly?

In order for suspense to work in The Tell-Tale Heart by Allan Poe, this story needs figurative language. The vulture eye which terrifies and haunts the narrator builds suspense until it comes to a conclusion.

“It was open --wide, wide open --and I grew furious as I gazed upon it. I saw it with perfect distinctness, all a dull blue, with a hideous veil over it that chilled the very marrow in my bones...

but I could see nothing else of the old man's face or person: for I had directed the ray as if by instinct, precisely upon the spot.”

This language is giving little away to tease the reader. Edgar Allan Poe uses figurative language to develop an inventive story that averts a certain outcome with lots of suspense.

Thus, option "A" is correct.
