Body language when communication is taking place, is vital. When appropriate body languge is not assumed, then communication will be ineffective, and useless. Furthermore, inappropriate body language, even if the verbal message being delivered is positive, can cause serious misunderstandings and trouble. In the case of Callie, in order for her to avoid this issue, and show the person who is talking to her that she is, in fact, attentively listening, she must show the person that she is listening, that she cares about what is being said, and that she is understanding the message. To do that, her body becomes a vital part of communication, and looking at the speaker in the eyes shows that she is, at least, paying attention to the person who is speaking.
