Why did the US move from a stance of isolation to intervention in WWI? Could the US have remained isolated?

The United States wanted to stay away from away foreign war after WWI due to the heavy casualties they had taken, for a war they thought shouldn't have happened. In the beginning of WWII the American people just said no more, we can't take this. Then when Japan went and bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941 the people of the United States could not accept this and the U.S joined the war on the Allied side.

Yes, we could have. But British intelligence had managed to arrange things so that only the Germans were responsible for the Lusitania sinking.


In 1812, the US got into a pointless conflict over a European blockade. We did not need to do that again, IMHO the US was manipulated into WW I by British Intelligence.
