Answer :

The following passage from Stephen Cranes "A Great Mistake" advances the plot :

C) "There was a babe living hard by, up five flights of stairs, who regarded this Italian as a tremendous being. The babe had investigated this fruit-stand. It had thrilled him as few things he had met with in his travels had thrilled him. The sweets of the world had laid there in dazzling rows, tumbled in luxurious heaps. When he gazed at this Italian seated amid such splendid treasures, his lower lip hung low and his eyes, raised to the vendor's face, were filled with deep respect, worship, as if he saw omnipotence. Why did the "artificial hierarchy" of Jim Crow go "against every human was it maintained because of that? Desire prime prime and
Setler79 [48]

Answer:

The Jim Crow Laws were a series of local laws and regulations established in the southern states of the United States after the end of Reconstruction, with the objective of reinstating racial segregation against the black population, establishing certain requirements for the exercise of rights civilians and politicians who had been recognized for these in the Constitution after the end of the Civil War.

Thus, these laws established a sort of hierarchy between the different citizens of the southern states, where, ultimately, white men with high purchasing power were those who had the greatest prerogatives. Thus, an artificial hierarchy was generated that violated the right to equality of people, and affected all those people who did not meet the requirements that the laws established to exercise political rights (especially black and lower-class people).
