y = pages read

Andrew right now is on page 50, so we can say that his equation looks like => y = 50.  He's planning to read 10 pages per day, so, let's make a quick table for that

days pages

1 50 + 10(1)

2 50 + 10(2)

3 50 + 10(3)

4 50 + 10(4)

5 50 + 10(5)

d  50 + 10(d )

namely y = 50 + 10d.

Holly hasn't started to read yet, so her equation looks like => y = 0,  but she'll be reading faster than Andrew, she'll be doing 20 pages a day, let's make another table

days pages

1 0+20(1)

2 0+20(2)

3 0+20(3)

4 0+20(4)

5 0+20(5)

d  0+20(d )

or just pretty much y = 20d.
