I believe that the dwellings are from the Cliff Palace located in the Mesa Verde National Park near Colorado. Is the biggest cliff settlement in North America and was builded by the ancient tribe Anasazi.

The tribe occupied the territories that today belong to Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Several monumental archaeolgical remains had been discover during the years, in fact two of them have been clasified by the UNESCO as world heritage. One of them is the Cliff Palace we see in the photo. The archaeological rest found show that they had a highly knowledge in respect of  ceramics, tissue and irrigation, they also watched the moving of the sun and draw pictures that have not been figure it out still.

Talking about the Cliff Palace itself the construction and remoledation was continuous between 1190 and 1260 A.D. althought the majority of the sections was finished in a 20 years lapse. By the year 1300 A.D. it was abandoned but the causes are not yey known. Some archaeologists think that they a large drought interrupt the supply of food.

The dwellings were built primarily with sand, adobe and wooden beams. They modelated the sandstone with harder rocks and they united everything with a mortar of soil, water and ashes. The doors are short and many people ask about it but the answer is that during that time the average height was less than 5.6 ft for men and 5.1 ft for women.

Arround 100 people lived in there but it is think that it was a ceremonial and administrative center for the Anasazi tribe. I hope this answer have help you.
