Most of the immagrants moving to america were poor, so when they moved to America they were looking for jobs and would often move to citys to work in the factorys which had a great demand for unskilled labor
By birth? i think? do you mean like how did they get in a certain caste? because then it would be by birth. but if you mean like what were the castes, i forget.
