The senior class is two times as large as the freshman class. If there are a total of 2,214 students at Mundy’s Mill High School, how many students are in the freshman class?

ok so since everything is based off the freshmen class lets make freshmen x

freshmen: x

sophomore: x+40

junior: 2x-30

and senior: 2x

add all of them and the equation is

6x+10=2214

then you take away 10 from both sides so the only thing left is 6x=2204

then you divide by 6 and then

x=367.333333

or 367 1/3
