There a couple of Central Plateaus in the world, but perhaps the relevant one is the one in Mexico. It's called Altiplano central, it is a <span>flat, high land surrounded by mountains and also it is the center of population in Mexico (with Mexico City in it it would be a surprise if it weren't...).
Other Central Plateus exist in Brazil and Haiti among others.
