What are three facts that you know about the Cold War?
AURORKA [14]

Colonel Nikolai Skuridin has just back to service after vacation. On the morning of 4th July, he already had a flight at training aircraft, the next step was to make a flight in fully armed MiG-23M jet fighter. Skuridin was not rookie pilot - he had 1700 flight hours and he was 1st class pilot according to the Soviet Air Force class system.

He took off. As soon as he did, he noticed afterburner had spontaneously turned off, as well as that throttles catastrophically dropped. He told the dispatcher he is about to eject, dispatch confirmed, so colonel left the jet.

Both jet pilot and spectators expected jet to crash near the airfield, but it never did. Instead, engine went back to normal, so did the jet itself due to autopilot system. Jet started to climb, flying westward. As MiG-23’s IFF kept tone back, jet passed both Poland and Eastern Germany unnoticed.

A strategic crossroads northeast of richmond
Flauer [41]
<span> <span>The strategic crossroads northeast of Richmond is the “Cold Harbor”.

The Battle of the Cold Harbor was on the final battles fought in 1864 during the American Civil War. The Peninsular Campaign led to a combat in between the Union led by Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and the army of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

When Grant was not able to break the lines drawn by Lee in Spotsylvania both the armies headed towards the Anna River that was only 25 miles from Richmond.

After this battle, Grant continued to pursue his goal of attacking the capital of the Confederate, which led to another battle just 8 miles from the northeast of Richmond, which was in the vicinity of the strategic crossroads northeast of Richmond, called Cold Harbor.

The name Cold Harbor was derived from the name of a tavern and the place was situated in between the rivers Chickahominy and Pamunkey.
