<span>Normally, after eating, the environment of stomoach is acidic itself. But, the mucus prevents the stomach lining from the damage caused by the acids. In highly acidic conditions, the enzyme pepsin is induced and it is resposible for digestion of proteins. Therefore, in acidic conditions, proteins are effectively digested.</span>
