The Selma March, also known as the Selma to Montgomery March, wanted to emphasize the issue of "voter discrimination". Supporters of this requested that all people should be given equal voting rights regardless of race. The march was successful and contributed to the passing of the Voting Rights Act.

Answer: "Voter discrimination."

Context:

In September, 1963, a bombing at a church in Birmingham sparked the African American community into strong action in Alabama to push for the rights of black citizens. As noted in a Voting Rights Timeline provided by Alabama State University, "the murder of four black girls at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham" was the catalyst that launched a "new thrust on voting rights by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)."

The voting rights campaign in Alabama culminated in the Selma to Montgomery March in March, 1965. Martin Luther King, Jr., as president of the SCLC, was a key participant in that campaign, as was John Lewis, chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Marchers (including Lewis) were attacked and beaten by state troopers the first time they attempted the march. Many Americans were sickened by the scenes of this which they saw on television, and National Guard troops then were deployed to protect the marchers as they again made their effort. There were roughly 2,000 (not 20,000) who made the successful march from Selma to Montgomery, March 21-25, 1965. When they arrived in Montgomery, they were met by a crowd of nearly 50,000 supporters, both blacks and whites in that supportive group.

In what way did Christopher Columbus fail to meet his objective concerning his voyage in 1492?
Gennadij [26K]

Answer:

C. His original objective in his 1492 voyage was to find a westerly route to the Orient. He never reached the Orient.

Explanation:

"Christopher Columbus" was an Italian explorer and a navigator. His voyage in 1492 was an endeavor to reach the Orient using the shortest path.

Columbus failed to reach the Orient and reached Indies, partly due to some error and partly due to the thought process. This route was shorter than the original route by approximately 7000 miles.

Columbus and his cruise had landed on islands surrounding Asia uncertain of the region where they landed. It is said that they stepped on the Watling Island.

The king who initiated the centralisation of political power in Sri Lanka ?
andrezito [222]

Answer:

Despite its obvious affinities with India, Sri Lanka nevertheless developed a unique identity over the ages that ultimately set it apart from its neighbour. Cultural traits brought from India necessarily underwent independent growth and change in Sri Lanka, owing in part to the island’s physical separation from the subcontinent. Buddhism, for instance, virtually disappeared from India, but it continued to flourish in Sri Lanka, particularly among the Sinhalese. Moreover, the Sinhalese language, which grew out of Indo-Aryan dialects from the mainland, eventually became indigenous solely to Sri Lanka and developed its own literary tradition.

zepelin [54]

Answer:

Because the climate of Mesopotamia was dry with little rainfall, farmers depended on the flooding of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers for water for their crops. The silt left behind from the flooding water made the soil fertile.. The most important crops in Mesopotamia were wheat and barley.
