It’s called slander. However, if there have been investigations into something and the reporter is simply doing his due diligence and looking into those investigations, no, the reporter cannot get in trouble for that; he’s doing his job.

That said, the reporter still has to take care to report the facts in a way that keeps the piece as unbiased as possible. Even if the reporter does his best to keep a piece unbiased, there will still be some personal bias; it’s a fact of life. However, the facts are more important in this case.
