The articles of confederation were way to week.Although it would have been a little simpler,the US needed a strong government.The states had too much power.The constitution was made for all the present states and future states to follow.If would give a larger body of government power along with state government.The constitution keeps the states from gaining too much power and causing harm to the country.

The state of Maryland actually tried to impose taxes and literally tax the federal bank. James McCulloch, who was the leader of the bank's branch in Baltimore, refused to pay the tax, and so the case came before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of McCulloch. This meant that state governments could not tax the federal governments or tax extensions of the federal government (like the national bank).
