Singala had promised his father that he would worship the six quarters after the death of his father.  But it became like a conflict for him that how could he worship six quarters which he wanted to get solved so that he could fulfill his promise that he made to his father.

So then Singala asked Buddha to help him clarify how should the six quarters be worshiped in the discipline of the noble? To this question of Singala Buddha replied with guidelines to help a lay person live with wisdom and compassion.
