The Homestand Act was a series of laws which motivated people to expand the US territory, in the first version of the law the applicant, any American and even freed slaves, could ask for up to 160 free acres of federal land.As a result, America could expand and explore lands to the west. The last patch of land granted by the law was in 1988, it was 80 acres in southeastern Alaska.

The Roaring Twenties was a time when young women fought against the traditional gender norms. These women (commonly referred to as flappers) would wear short dresses, smoke in public, drink alcohol, and dance in jazz clubs. These acts were all frowned upon for women to do at the time. While in the twenties these women were often viewed as immoral and dangerous, we have since come to recognize them as pioneers of women’s independence, as they pushed back against gender norms.
Hernan Cortes was a Spanish Conquistador who led an expedition that conquered the Aztec Empire and imperialized large parts of Mexico. Cortes conquered modern day Mexico on behalf of the Spanish kingdom of King of Castille in the 16th century. Cortes was a part of the early colonizers from the Spain who conquered and colonized large swaths of the Americas. The Spanish conquered enormous swaths of Latin and South America and the effects of this colonization can still be seen in the language, culture, and lifestyle of this region.
