Answer:

a) The fifth pulse rate = 71

b) As shown in this question, (n-1) variables can be assigned freely, but last one has to now be determined, just like I did with the problem in (a).

Explanation:

Mean/average = (Σx)/N

The average is the sum of variables divided by the number of variables

x = each variable

N = number of variables = 5

Mean = 86

Let the unknown pulse rate be y

86 = (94 + 91 + 85 + 89 + y)/5

y = 430 - (94 + 91 + 85 + 89) = 71

b) As shown in this question, (n-1) variables can be assigned freely, but last one has to now be determined, just like I did with the problem in (a).

Read the sentence from the introductory paragraph. The twentieth century could be nicknamed the century of “power to the people.
const2013 [10]

The author means by the phrase that People were able to choose who would lead their governments.

Explanation:

In the 20th century there were a lot of new nations that were formed out of old imperialistic colonies and most of them adopted, or ended up adopting a democratic system of governance where the people have the right to choose who would govern over them and the positions are rotating.

This is something that could be called to have given greater ability for the people to govern their own lives and the author has teemed the century thus as the century where the [power went to the people.

Montano1993 [528]
feudalism an inevitable stage in the development of capitalism. Commercial capitalism existed in various countries in the ancient world without a prior stage resembling the feudalism of the Middle Ages in Europe. Industrial capitalism came into existence in the United States, in Canada, and in Australia without a prior stage of feudalism. By a rather heroic oversimplification, the precapitalistic era in Japan might be termed feudalism.
