Phantom Ranch is a tree-shaded oasis located in Grand Canyon National Park. This is the only lodging that is located below the rim. This ranch is found on the north side of the Colorado River, beside Bright Angel Creek. Because of its unusual and inaccessible location, the lodge can only be accessed by mule, on foot or by rafting the Colorado River.

Sometime in the 1920’s, the National Park Service charged the Fred Harvey Company with building a tourist centre within the canyon. The result is the rustic cabins and main lodge of the Phantom Ranch, which is built of wood and native stone, providing a perfect blend with the natural beauty of the park setting.
It is actually a simplified view of the earth's rotation because the tilt of the earth's axis with respect to the plane of the earth's orbit means that sometimes sunrise occurs slightly earlier or later along the same longitude.
