In "Tell Them Not To Kill Me" by Juan Rulfo, Justino is in conversation with his father Juvencio Nava who is convicted of murder nearly forty years ago. In the present scenario, he is awaiting a shooting squad that will execute him. He is asking with his son to go and plead to the colonel to spare him. This colonel turns out to be the son of the deceased man Don Lupe who Juvencio had murdered. Justino refuses to obey his father's request as he also fears for his safety and that of his children and wife. If they know that he's the son of the convict, they might also turn their guns to him and his family. So, according to him, his father is in a hopeless situation.
