Being respectful to someone else's background is a good example of adapting messages appropriately. This is a good way to be understood and listened to. Same goes to changing the language for a person that doesn't know technical words or lowering your voice in a movie theater, where you should not even speak. Scolding a son harshly is not a good example of appropriate adaptation of language, though.
