Colonial India is the part of the Indian subcontinent, which was under the powers and control of colonial Europeans through trade and conquest.

The first European power to arrive in India was the army of Alexander the Great in 327-326 BC.

The satraps he established in the northwest of the subcontinent quickly collapsed after he left.

Trade was conducted between the Indian states and the Roman Empire by Roman sailors who came to India via the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, but the Romans never sought commercial settlements or territory in India.

The spice trade between India and Europe was one of the main trading floors of the world economy and was the main catalyst for the European exploration period.

Why did imperial powers create spheres of influence in other regions instead of creating colonies?
MArishka [77]

Answer:

Some simple reasons for this could be that it is easier to manage spheres of influences that to manage a a system of colonies , and it is cheaper. The costs of running, occupying and defending colonies was high. You can get political, diplomatic subordination of weaker nations and trade and economic advantages in a spehere of influence, without having to occupy those countries militarily. This is a simple analysis maybe, but it seeks to highlight some pragmatic aspects.

Colombia’s legal and regulatory systems are for the most part transparent and consistent with international norms. Colombia has a comprehensive legal framework for business and foreign direct investment (FDI), and the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement (CTPA) that took effect on May 15, 2012, has strengthened trade and investment between our countries. Through the CTPA and several international conventions and treaties, Colombia’s dispute settlement mechanisms and intellectual property rights protection are stronger than ever. Nevertheless, piracy and counterfeit products continue to be a major problem, which is the reason why Colombia remains on the U.S. Trade Representative’s Special 301Watch List.
