Answer:

The best way in which Marxism, or Marx´s theory of communism can be described would be: it attempted to gain a more equal, and more just, distribution of property, and especially of profits made out of porduction and selling, between the workers and the business owners, and also to establish an economic system where the way profits are distributed depends more on the time spent by workers on the production of goods, rather than the prices set by the business owners and that seek to give this second group the greater part of the profit.

Explanation:

Karl Marx was a German theorist, economist and philosopher, who lived between 1818-1883. Making use of the theories on capitalism, and especially the Labor Theory of Value, from Adam Smith and David Ricardo, and in conjunction with his best friend Friedrich Engels, Marx used that Labor Theory and with other influences, created with Engels what today is known as the Communist Manifesto, which was published in 1848. It is in this Manifesto that Marx and Engels lay de groundwork for what later became the communist and socialist movements. Basically, Marx established a huge division between the Proletariat (working class) and the capitalists, and he also established that redistribution of profits and gains had to be done between these two groups, in favor of the laborers, who were the ones who put in labor power in order to produce and thus make profit.

Answer:

Spanish-American War Begins

The ensuing war was pathetically one-sided, since Spain had readied neither its army nor its navy for a distant war with the formidable power of the United States.

In the early morning hours of May 1, 1898, Commodore George Dewey led a U.S. naval squadron into Manila Bay in the Philippines. He destroyed the anchored Spanish fleet in two hours before pausing the Battle of Manila Bay to order his crew a second breakfast. In total, fewer than 10 American seamen were lost, while Spanish losses were estimated at over 370. Manila itself was occupied by U.S. troops by August.

The elusive Spanish Caribbean fleet under Adm. Pascual Cervera was located in Santiago harbor in Cuba by U.S. reconnaissance. An army of regular troops and volunteers under Gen. William Shafter (including then-secretary of the Navy Theodore Roosevelt and his 1st Volunteer Cavalry, the “Rough Riders”) landed on the coast east of Santiago and slowly advanced on the city in an effort to force Cervera’s fleet out of the harbor.

Cervera led his squadron out of Santiago on July 3 and tried to escape westward along the coast. In the ensuing battle all of his ships came under heavy fire from U.S. guns and were beached in a burning or sinking condition.

Santiago surrendered to Shafter on July 17, thus effectively ending the brief but momentous war.
