So he dozed off pretty soon. By and by I got the old split-bottom chair and clumb up as easy as I could, not to make any noise,

and got down the gun. I slipped the ramrod down it to make sure it was loaded, then I laid it across the turnip barrel, pointing towards pap, and set down behind it to wait for him to stir. And how slow and still the time did drag along. Study the context of the word ramrod. What is the meaning of it in this excerpt?

A ramrod is a rod used to push down the charge of a muzzleloading firearm.

In this passage, we learn that a ramrod was used to load a gun, or to make sure that it was loaded. We can conclude this based on the context of the word in this example. This conclusion would be right. A ramrod is a metal or wooden device that is used to push the projectile against the propellant when dealing with muzzleoading firearms. Therefore, it was used with weapons such as muskets and cannons.

Read this passage from chapter 5 of The Prince.
Ne4ueva [31]

Machiavelli uses reasoning and an example as evidence in an argumentative structure to support his claim that a prince must destroy a city that is accustomed to freedom if he wants to hold it.

Explanation:

Machiavelli's 'The Prince' is a dogmatic book that offers pragmatic and often outlandishly authoritarian solutions to maintain the peace of the increasingly chaotic Italian cities of its time.

By giving an example of Pisa, he argues if the new Florentine prince is to hold on to the captured cities he must subdue their freedom and destroy the cities that are used to freedom.

If he allows them to exist as they are it would probably be that they will rebel eventually.

What does a supporting text mean?
BigorU [14]
I'm assuming supporting text is referring to supporting text evidence. Basically meaning taking excerpts from the provided text to prove whatever you are claiming in your answer.
What you have to do is write a paragraph (or longer) that provides two reasons of whatever the topic is.You must include with these two reasons evidence or quotes from the text and plenty of details about your answer. You must also show evidence of planning, or show that you structured or brainstormed before beginning. For this you can either make some sort of chart or graph, or just make bullet points of main ideas and details.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions :)
