When comparing <em>The Declaration of Independence</em> with <em>The Crisis</em>, we see that the former appeals more to reason than the latter, which relies heavily on emotion. This could reflect both the purpose of the texts as well as the characteristics of the authors. <em>The Declaration of Independence</em> is merely "declaring" something that has been agreed upon. Therefore, it has less of a need to be persuasive.
