Right answer: Nosotros te los compramos

In spanish, as well as in english, we have two types of object pronouns:

-Direct Object pronouns

-Indirect Object pronouns

Let’s begin by explaining that Direct Object or Direct Complement, is the part of the sentence that directly receives the action of the verb. It is used to replace a person, animal or thing in the conversation or in the writing in order to avoid repetition; when they have already been seen in a sentence or external context where the statement occurs.

According to the Subject the Direct Object pronouns are:

1st person singular: Yo me

2nd person singular (informal): Tú te

2nd person singular (formal): Usted lo/la

3rd person singular: El/eso lo, Ella/esa la

1st person plural: Nosotros nos

2nd person plural: Ustedes(In latinAmerica) los/las/Vosotros(In Spain) os

3rd person plural: Ellos/Ellas los (masculine) /las (feminine)

In the case of this sentence:

Nosotros compramos los boletos para ti (We buy the tickets for you

)

Los boletos (the tickets) directly receives the action of the verb compramos (we bought).

Now, los boletos is the 3rd person in plural masculine they. Therefore, according to the explanation and list above, the correct direct object pronoun to substitute los boletos is:

los

Having this clear, let's continue with the Indirect Object:

The Indirect Object or Indirect Complement of a sentence is the person, animal or thing that indirectly receives the action of the verb.

To identify it in a sentence, we must ask to the verb ¿a quién? (to whom?) Or ¿para quién? (for whom?).

On the other hand, the Indirect Object Pronouns replace a word or phrase, which in the sentence fulfills the function of indirect object.

They are written before the verb, when it is conjugated, as follows:

1st person singular Yo: me

2nd person singular (informal) Tú: te

2nd person singular (formal) Usted: le

3rd person singular El/Ella/eso/esa: le

1st person plural Nosotros: nos

2nd person plural Ustedes (In latinAmerica): les

2nd person plural Vosotros (In Spain): os

3rd person plural Ellos/Ellas: les

Going back to the sentence: Nosotros compramos los boletos para ti (We bought the tickets for you

)

If we ask ourselves ¿Para quién compramos los boletos? (For whom did we buy the tickets?)

The answer is:

Para ti (For you)

Knowing that you is the 2nd person in singular and taking into account the explanation and the list above, the correct indirect object pronoun to replace it is:

te

Therefore, we finally have the two object pronouns to change the sentence:

Nosotros compramos los boletos para ti.

to:

Nosotros te los compramos
