Why did the English people differ in their views on the execution of Charles I?

History

Charles I was a bad king who believed in the divine right of kings and thought that he had absolute power when he arrested members of Parliament. He had totally forgotten or ignored the provisions of Magna Carta which limited the king's power and gave power to the barons (loosely speaking, Parliament) It was this arrogance that brought about his eventual execution.

Killing a king was alien to the British people and was a measure of just how bad, and unpopular Charles was. So, the lack of mass protests, demonstrations and rescue attempts shows that public opinion was in favour.

Only the defeated Royalists were against this action and they were basically the privileged ones who benefitted from the king having such power.

Unfortunately, Cromwell's Commonwealth (Republic) were no better and went to the opposite extreme - and they destroyed a great deal of British history and architecture.

It would have been better all round had Charles been humiliated, like John before him, but remained king with reduced powers. This would have reinforced Magna Carta and done just as much to push Britain along the path of Constitutional Monarchy and ultimately Parliamentary democracy.

Courts of Appeals

The 94 federal judicial districts are organized into 12 regional circuits, each of which has a court of appeals. The appellate court's task is to determine whether or not the law was applied correctly in the trial court. Appeals courts consist of three judges and do not use a jury.

Which statement is not true about the Plessy v. Furguson case? A. It promoted the creation of Jim Crowe laws B. It paved the way
gayaneshka [121]

Answer:

The correct answer is B. It is not true that the Plessy v. Ferguson case paved the way for the Little Rock 9 to attend Central High School.

Explanation:

Plessy v. Ferguson was a landmark case decided by the Supreme Court in 1896 that ruled on the constitutionality of the right of the states of the Union to impose racial segregation in public places under the "separate but equal" doctrine.

The court decided, by 7 votes to 1, to declare that segregation in the southern states did not violate the Constitution (in particular the 14th Amendment which stated that all citizens were equal before the law). Judge Henry Billings Brown, speaking for the majority that approved the decision, said that the segregation done in the state of Louisiana did not imply inferiority, in the eyes of the law, of African Americans and that the separation by race in public places and services was a mere political issue. The dissenting voice within the Court, Judge John Marshall Harlan, strongly condemned his colleagues and said that this decision would be as negatively striking as the "Dred Scott Case". He added that the law of the United States did not state that the country had a caste system, that the constitution did not see the color of its citizens' skin and that everyone was equal under the law. Several jurists agreed with Harlan and the nation was divided over it. The southern states, however, rejoiced that their system of segregation by race now had a legal basis to support itself.

To prevent possible coup or assassination, Stalin sent dissidents to Siberia
T/f
ira [324]

True

Stalin expelled his major opponents from the political arena by the end of the 1920s. In the period of 1936 to the beginning of 1938. Most of them were physically exterminated. Stalin's purges left behind few key players and set the slate clean for a new history of Soviet communism.
