Technically since Mayella is under oath while she is testifying in court, she should be speaking only the truth and nothing but the truth. However, she does not feel completely free to speak the truth.
If she were to speak the truth and tell the court that her father is the one who beat her, it is very likely that she would receive another beating. Fearing for her safety is one obstacle that keeps her from telling the whole truth.
Societal rules are also keeping her from speaking the truth. If Mayella were to confess that she is the one who made advances towards Tom, she would be further shunned by the townspeople. During the trial, she is gaining a lot of attention. Normally, she is rarely seen by the people in town, and when she is rarely is she acknowledged. This trial gives her attention. By revealing that she is not as innocent as she appears to be, she would lose her stage.

I have missed getting to see you. Since it is summer, I was reminded of all the wonderful times spent in my childhood yard. I loved sitting in the grass with watermelon juice streaming down my face. Those were truly the days. I remember blowing bubbles when I was seven and chasing butterflies in our little half-acre slice of Texas. This place was so important to me, because it taught me to enjoy the simple pleasure of life, and enjoy the gifts of nature. I have thought about our old house many times, and I am so thankful for my wonderful childhood I spent there.

He wishes his father would just listen to him about what happened to him in Vietnam and all the horrors he went through and give him credit for the 7 medals he had received for his efforts in the war. However, his father was in a rather depressed state and did not see medals as a measure of a man's ability or heroism. All his son wanted to do was get some of the pressures of the war off his chest and be admired some by his dad but it was useless and it just had to keep it inside. The guilt and the good that he felt was a burden he carried. He also wished his father would recognize what a good soldier he himself had been instead of withdrawing to himself after the war. As a result he sees and feels no use for his life after the war
