Answer:

James Oglethorpe had two reasons for founding the colony of Georgia in 1732:

-on the one hand, he wanted to establish a colony to be a safe place for English debtors who were imprisoned in their country just because of their debts. He sought the newly formed colony as a safe heaven where this people would be able to start new lives, away from those economic problems.

-on the other hand, the colony would act as a buffer zone between the Spanish territories in Florida and the English colonies further north. In other words, the colony of Georgia would serve to protect the British colonies in North America from Spanish attacks coming from the south.

Why was the provisional government unpopular
irga5000 [103]

Answer:

In March 1917, when the tsar's government collapsed, the members of the Duma set up the Provisional Government, led by Prince Georgy Lvov.

The Provisional Government never really ruled Russia. Right from the start, it had to share power with the Petrograd Soviet, which had a rule (Order No.1) that its members should only obey the Provisional Government if the Soviet agreed with it. For this reason, March to November 1917 is sometimes called the period of Dual Government in Russia.

Disastrously, the Provisional Government - because it was only a temporary government - did not really carry out any major reforms. All it did was abolish the Okhrana and press censorship, and allow political freedom. This gave the government's opponents - such as Lenin's Bolsheviks - the freedom to attack the government for the problems it was not solving.

The main problem of the Provisional Government was that it tried to continue the war. In June 1917, it organised an attack on Austria. When the attack failed, people began to turn against the government. Instead, they started to follow Lenin whose welcome message was: 'Peace, bread, land'.

Which government action was designed to discourage criticism of us involvement in ww1?
Nonamiya [84]

D. The Espionage and Sedition Acts.

Explanation:

President Woodrow Wilson passed the Espionage and Sedition Acts in 1917. With these acts, it was against the law and was considered a crime to criticize the United States by using abusive and vile language. You also could not interfere with the United States trying to defeat Germany by stating different opinions publicly.

With the United States' involvement in World War I, many did not agree with what was happening. Some people thought that the United States should have just stayed out of it altogether, which resulted in many proving to be disloyal to the United States and its cause.

The Espionage and Sedition Acts made it illegal to say such things about the United States. You could not interfere with the United States relations with Germany by saying certain opinions or saying anything that related to being disloyal to the United States.
