Why can't helen robinson work and support her three children?

Because Tom Robinson (Helen's husband) was undergone a court trial because of a Raape accusation.
This tarnish the name of the Robinsons and make people do not want to associate with Helen in any way, which lead her unable to obtain jobs to support her three children.
