How do cells receive the energy they need to function?

Cells, like humans, cannot generate energy without locating a source in their environment. However, whereas humans search for substances like fossil fuels to power their homes and businesses, cells seek their energy in the form of food molecules or sunlight. In fact, the Sun is the ultimate source of energy for almost all cells, because photosynthetic prokaryotes, algae, and plant cells harness solar energy and use it to make the complex organic food molecules that other cells rely on for the energy required to sustain growth, metabolism, and reproduction.

Cellular nutrients come in many forms, including sugars and fats. In order to provide a cell with energy, these molecules have to pass across the cell membrane, which functions as a barrier — but not an impassable one. Like the exterior walls of a house, the plasma membrane is semi-permeable. In much the same way that doors and windows allow necessities to enter the house, various proteins that span the cell membrane permit specific molecules into the cell, although they may require some energy input to accomplish this task

Cells receive the energy they need to function by a source of energy, they get this energy by breaking down food molecules to release, the stored chemical energy. When this happens, its called cellular respiration.

Punnett squares provide an easy way to predict the possible genotypes for an offspring, but it is not practical to perform a Pun
castortr0y [4]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

There are certain limitations associated with the Punnett Squares. They are not useful in case of complex genetic inheritance such as linkage between two genes. In case of linkages it becomes difficult to estimate the distribution of genotypes and phenotypes. For example in case of  Nail-patella Syndrome and gene associated with blood group two genes lie on the same chromosome in close vicinity and hence there are high chances of inheritance of these traits in the offspring from the parent thereby causing  random distribution of the two traits. This random distribution cannot be captured through punnet square.

The same problem is associated in case where a single gene is determined by multiple genes with graded effects of each gene.

How does a marshmallow contain carbon?
bulgar [2K]

Answer:

The sugar molecules in the marshmallow are being changed into carbon. Sugar can be changed into water molecules. When you toast marshmallows, the heat causes a chemical reaction producing water molecules which then evaporate, leaving the carbon behind.
