First thing you should do is simplify the question they are asking for the parameter and you know the parameter is two times the length plus two times the width.
2l + 2w = p
we know the only thing that is changing in this equation is the length and the perimeter
2(4w - 5) + 2w = 90 \\ l = 4w - 5
