A 0.47 kg mass is attached to a spring with a spring constant of 130 N/m so that the mass is allowed to move on a horizontal fri

ction-less surface. The mass is released from rest when the spring is compressed 0.12 m. A) Find the force on the mass at the instant the spring is released. B) Find the acceleration of the mass at the instant the spring is released.

Answer:

F= 15.6 N,   a= 33.2 m/s^2

Explanation:

mass= m = 0.47 kg

spring constant= k = 130N/m

spring compression = x = 0.12 m

a).

force on the mass= F = k*x

F = 130 * 0.12 N

F= 15.6 N

b).

Acceleration of mass= a=?

F= ma

a=F / m

a= 15.6/ 0.47 m/s^2

a= 33.2 m/s^2

Explain why air is not used as a<br>brake fluid
Lelechka [254]

Answer:

A gas is not used in hydraulic machines as the fluid because gas is easily compressible and so if a gas is used, the energy would mostly go into compressing a gas. Therefore a liquid is used in hydraulic machines as the fluid.

A 90kg man is standing still on frictionless ice. His friend tosses him a 10kg ball, which has a horizontal velocity of 20m/s. A
Ludmilka [50]
Using the conservation of momentum,
ma*va1 + mb*vb1 = ma*va2 + mb*vb2
Let:
ma = mass of the ball
va = velocity of the ball
mb = mass of the man
vb = velocity of the man
The subscript 1 is known as initials while 2 is for finals.
Before the man throws the ball, he starts at rest, meaning the initial velocity of the ball and the initial velocity of the man are zero. So
0 = ma*va2 + mb*vb2
Given ma = 10 kg; va = 20 m/s; mb = 90 kg; vb is unknown, therefore
-(mb*vb2) = ma*va2
vb2 = -(ma*va2)/mb2 = -(10*20)/90 = -2.22 m/s
Notice that his velocity is negative because when he finally throws the ball (say to the right), he moves at the opposite direction (that is to the left) on which he stands on the frictionless surface.

The largest building in the world by volume is the boeing 747 plant in Everett, Washington. It measures approximately 632 m long
Schach [20]

Explanation:

Given that,

The dimensions of the largest building in the world is 632 m long, 710 yards wide, and 112 ft high. It basically forms a cuboid. The volume of a cuboidal shape is given by :

Since,

1 meter = 3.28084 feet

632 m = 2073.49 feet

1 yard= 3 feet

710 yards = 2130 feet

V = lbh

V=2073.49 \ ft\times 2130\ ft\times 112\ ft

V=494651774.4\ ft^3

V=4.94\times 10^8\ ft^3

Also,

V=(4.94\times 10^8\ ft^3)(\dfrac{1\ m}{3.281})^3

V=1.39\times 10^7\ m^3

Hence, this is the required solution.
