Why did sir humphrey gilbert and sir walter raleigh fail in their attempts to colonize the new world?

They received insufficient support from government

In their first attempt to settle in the New World, they were not prepared for the climate and their attempt at colonization failed. The second time, their efforts were frustrated by Spain which was  trying to invade England. As such, internal issues such as war and lack of resources hampered their efforts
